Take a look at few of Simple tips to secure your Joomla and WordPress Installation

Joomla  ----------------

  1. Always use latest and stable version
  2. Keep upgrading application with latest version as well as all supported plugins.
  3. Secure or hidden your administrator directory.
  4. Configuration.php and tmp folder should not be within public_html folder.
  5. Do not use Default Database prefix as well as Database name and user name.
  6. Do not keep sample articles, unused plugins and extensions.
  7. Do not download paid plugins/extensions or templates from insecure website which claim to provide them Free of cost.
  8. It is recommended to use some paid plugins for security like jsecure, joomla firewall or Dot Defender etc.

WordPress -----------------

  1. Always use latest and stable version.
  2. Keep upgrading application with latest version as well as all supported plugins.
  3. Do not download paid plugins/extensions or templates from insecure website which claim to provide them Free of cost.
  4. Do not keep unused plugins.
  5. It is recommended to Use the Plugins given below for better security:

b.) AntiVirus
